More E85 D-Series Tuning...

This car belongs to Marc from Simpsonville. He brought the car in last night for a tune on 93 Octane, and then a tune on E85.

Marc uses this car to compete in SCCA STS class races, so the engine is essentially stock, due to classing rules, with a few bolt on parts. Since rules on power modifications are so strict, he wanted to convert to E85 to gain any available horsepower. Marc competes on a National level in this car, and is currently ranked 3rd in the nation in his class.

Since he will be driving the car to all events, he wanted a 93 Octane map, as well as the E85 map, since E85 may not be accessible in all areas.

Here is the setup:

Stock D16a6
AEM Cold Air Intake
Custom Header
Stock Cat
2 1/2" Exhaust, through a Burns Stainless Muffler

Stock fuel pump
Stock injectors

Tuned on Zdyne (Usually we recommend converting to OBD1, but due to class rules, Marc needed to run the OEM ECU.)

Photobucket

Here is the chart. The brown line is from the 93 Octane tune, and the green line is from the E85 tune. Notice that there are gains through out the powerband, resulting in around a 5% gain in peak power and torque.

Marc D16a6 stock motor

Photobucket

The D16a6 is a low compression, low HP engine. Still, good power gains were had from simply swapping fuels and re-tuning. In a high compression, or boosted application, E85 will allow the tuner more freedom with ignition timing, allowing your engine to produce more power, with less risk of damage to the engine.

Mazdaspeed Engine Swap and 240sx Microtech Tune..

Photobucket

Adam brought us his Mazdaspeed6 for a complete engine swap. Just after his warranty went out on his Mazda the motor blew and needed to get back on the road fast. The new motor arrived yesterday and the old one is coming out today. We should have Adam back on the road Wednesday.

Photobucket

Anthony's 240sx Coupe is starting to wrap up here at TDC. He recently had just purchased the car and brought it straight to the shop. Anthony had no idea what was wrong with the car and asked us to get it ready for him to track race the car. The Car was in need of a tune which is being preformed on Microtech. He was also having charging issues which was resolved. We are also installing a battery kill-switch so that the car is ready for the track.

Photobucket

Ryan brought back his Jeep for some more repairs. Ryan has been coming to us for the past year with all of his problems, and now he was in need of getting his a/c back. The compressor was completely gone and was screeching very bad. We replaced his old broken compressor with a new one and had him on his way the same day.

Mustang Tuning Results and Civic Tuning Results!!!

Jeff brought us his 1995 Cobra Mustang for some repairs, parts installs, and a tune on SCT. We started by repairing a "ticking" noise that he had, which turned out to be nothing but a broken spark plug.

Jeff had us replace his Shorty Headers with BBK long tube headers, install a BBK X Pipe, Trick Flow Nitrous Kit, and Autometer gauges and pod.

After the installs, Jeff's Cobra went on to the dyno.

Here is the setup:

347 Stroker Engine
Trick Flow Heads
Nitrous Cam
Roller Rockers
Trick Flow Intake Manifold
BBK Throttle Body

BBK Long Tube Headers
BBK X Pipe
Flowmaster Exhaust

#42 Injectors
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
Aeromotive FPR
Trick Flow Nitrous Kit (Jetted for 150 shot)

MSD Billet Distributor
MSD Plug Wires
MSD Ignition and Coil

Tuned on SCT. As a side note, SCT for OBD1 Ford Cars does not offer datalogging, even though all of their OBD2 programmers do. On OBD1 Fords, we usually recommend Tweecer RT for tuning, but Jeff's ECU already had the chip for SCT.

Here is the chart from the motor tune:

This chart is without the Nitrous. This engine has a nitrous cam installed, which can have a slightly adverse effect on all-motor performance. After Jeff's bottle warmer is installed, we will tune for nitrous, and post those charts as well. Be on the lookout for update!

Mai brought us his Civic on Friday for a few repairs, some parts installs, and a tune on Crome Gold. We installed his AEM Fuel Rail, Resistors, DSM 450cc injectors, chipped his OBD1 P28, and installed a jumper harness. After deciding that he wanted to go over 8 psi, we also installed a GM 3Bar MAP Sensor.

His swap and tune was completed by another shop, so Mai asked us to look over the wiring, since the car had given him a few random issues. Mai told us that his car would randomly "skip", and was not making the power that he thought a turbo car should. Here is what we found:

Photobucket

Notice that not only are there 3 crimp connectors in the injector wiring, the clips also have wires soldered onto them right at the base of the clip. All 4 injectors were rigged up the same way. Can anyone say "fire hazard"?

We replaced the entire injector portion of the wiring harness, soldered and heat shrinked the inline resistors, installed the injectors and fuel rail, and got the car on the dyno. This car was also previously tuned on a VAFC, with the stock injectors, so in the sake of safety, we did not do a base pull.

Here is the setup:

Stock B18C1

eBay Cast Manifold
eBay 50 Trim Turbo
eBay 38mm Wastegate
eBay RS BOV
2 1/2" Down Pipe
FMIC

Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
DSM 450cc Injectors
GM 3Bar MAP Sensor

Tuned on Crome Gold

Photobucket

Here is the dyno chart for low boost. Boost levels were fluctuating between 6.8psi and 7.1psi.

Photobucket

Here is a chart for 10psi, but the clutch started slipping badly on the dyno. This run was ended early, and the dyno session was stopped until the clutch is replaced.

Mustang Gauges and G35 Coilover Installs...

Photobucket

Austin's D2 coilovers made it in this morning and are on. It completes his maintenance that was started yesterday for his trip to school. When he returns he will be ready for the turbo kit that he has been wanting.

Photobucket

Jeff's Mustang has the last pieces for the build he has started. Gauges were the last touch for tuning the Nitrous on the Mustang. We will have the sheets up when this car is tuned. One on the motor and one on Nitrous. Be on the look out for it.

E85 Integra Tuning Results!!!!

Tim brought us his Integra a while back for a few repairs and a tune. The first time on the dyno, his car was tuned on 93 Octane, and had a few boost controller issues. He brought the car back this week, and we installed a Blox Fuel Pressure gauge, AEM Tru Boost, removed the 93 Octane and switched over to E85.

Here is the setup:
GSR head
B20B Block
Supertech 9:1 Pistons
Eagle Rods
Stock Sleeves
Block guard
Skunk2 Intake Manifold

Bosch 1000cc Injectors
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
AEM Fuel Rail
AEM Fuel Filter
Weapon R FPR

Synapse Turbo Kit
Tial 48mm Wastegate
57 trim Garrett Turbo
3" Open Downpipe
Tuned on Hondata S300

The only changes to Tim's setup were the AEM boost Controller, Blox Fuel pressure gauge, and E85.

Photobucket

Here are the charts, tuned on E85. First is 13psi, second is 17psi, and 15psi, respectively.

The injectors were seeing really high duty cycles at 17psi, so we left the boost controller at 15psi. Tim may be adding an inline Bosch 044 pump to supply the extra fuel capacity needed for E85, and turning the boost back up.

Photobucket

For comparison purposes, here is Tim's chart from the last tune on 93 octane vs. the chart from the E85 tune. Both of these charts are at 15psi.
